Welcome to The Indirect Market by me, Brandon Schatz. If you’re seeing this, I’m thankful to have you here. As usual, I have many plans, and dubious follow-through.

I’m the co-owner of Variant Edition Graphic Novels + Comics in Edmonton, Alberta. We once won an award for having the Best Comic Shop in Canada.

This newsletter is intended to be a regular missive of indeterminate length, talking about the comic book industry past, present and future as well as my personal philosophies on life and business. This is done in tandem with articles that appear somewhat regularly at The Beat which will (attempt to) be more focused and concise.

With both of these endeavours, I’m hoping to build a living history of a period of great change in the comic industry, while providing tips for other retailers to survive what’s to come.
