Elsewhere: The One Thing You Need to Run a Successful Comic Shop
I just went and told everyone the magic secret, oops!
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a piece at The Beat about how the way forward for comic shops is to start thinking, and acting small. Today, I’m following up on that by exposing the one thing that every store needs to do to have a chance at success.
I’m proud of this one. Writing is something that I absolutely adore, but more often than not, getting the words out is a battle - and admittedly, this article was about half of what I wanted to talk about. But nearly 2,000 words is enough for one chunk, I think, and now I have a head start on the next thing.
Behind the Scenes
I’ve already linked to this, but the exploration of this got bumped to the next piece.
It concerns how Barnes & Noble found success by thinking and acting smaller. It’s been something a lot of large companies have been chasing in little ways, usually to great success. It’s also why I’ve always told people to make their business social media very personal, and make your personal social media very professional, when you’re in the small business grind. But more on all of that in two or three weeks.
You might have noticed, I have a new profile picture!
Much like my previous picture, this was put together by the fantastic Darren M. A. Calvert, whose art you’re going to see all over the upcoming Marvel: Damage Control game.
The old picture kept getting more and more out of date, as the hair up top continues to migrate down the face, and I figured, since I was back to writing somewhat prolifically again, I needed something that actually looked like me. As always, he killed it.
That’s going to do it for this check in. Tomorrow, I’ll be back to talk about one or two of the new releases hitting the stands. Usually I have a good line on which ones by now, but Image has yet to arrive, so it is a bit up in the air. But I will be looking into something weird that might be happening during the first week in March. We’ll see if it is actually a thing, or if what I’m seeing is just a coincidence.
If I don’t talk about it, and you want to know what I’m alluding to, post a comment on tomorrow’s post and I’ll let you know what was up.
Alright, folks. Talk with you soon.
